Communication friendly environments

Communication friendly environments is built upon five foundations.

Each foundation is considered to be essential in encouraging, supporting and developing speech, language and communication skills. See the diagram below.

A diagram illustration the elements which contribute towards communication friendly environments. These include learning environment, supporting learning approaches, adult interaction styles, nurturing communication and career-long professional learning.

Communication Friendly Environments aims to build capacity within education, primary care and community establishments to support the language and communication needs of all children and young people, and adults. This is essential in supporting the health and wellbeing of people in Ayrshire throughout their lifespan.

Accreditation programmes are currently running in East and South Ayrshire. Please contact your local Speech and Language Therapy department for more details.
