Children’s ward cheered by cracking donation

Easter egg donation to Children's ward at NHS Ayrshire & Arran

The children’s ward at University Hospital Crosshouse has received an egg-ceptional Easter donation thanks to local man Michael Kirkum Jr, from Kilwinning.

Michael has approached Ayrshire businesses to request a contribution and recently came along to the children’s ward to make the delivery of chocolate goodies, which staff will distribute to young inpatients. He has taken on the mantel of coordinating such donations from his father, also Michael Kirkum, who recently stepped back after many years of putting smiles on faces of children staying at the ward.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran Paediatrics Senior Charge Nurse Fiona Scott said: “Having to stay in hospital is never easy, but it can be especially difficult for children over the holidays. For many years now, the Kirkum family and the local businesses they approach have helped bring joy to patients staying with us over Easter. We can’t thank them enough for their generosity.”

Rebekah McGinn from Crosshouse Children’s Fund said: “We are very grateful for Michael’s continued support. His collection each year not only provides an Easter treat for those in hospital, but also raises awareness of Crosshouse Children’s Fund and the incredible work that takes place on the children’s wards. We’d like to express our thanks to everyone who supported Michael once again this year.”
