Team celebrating 10 years of the Family Nurse Partnership

NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) has celebrated its tenth anniversary with an event in North Ayrshire.

Parents, children and staff gathered at Fullerton Connexions in Irvine on Monday 3 July to mark this special milestone and take part in fun activities including a magician, face painting, Bookbug, and arts and crafts.

FNP is an evidence-based change programme that is delivered in the parents’ own homes from early pregnancy until the child reaches the age of two years old.

The FNP programme is tailored to meet the specific needs of young parents. Family nurses are experienced, qualified nurses and midwives who undergo extensive additional training at Masters level. This enables them to deliver the structured programme to support young parents to build the confidence and skills they need to provide the right support for their baby and give them the best start in life.

Nicola Murphy, Family Nurse Partnership Supervisor, said: “Our celebration event was a wonderful opportunity for current and previous families that we’ve worked with to get together and share their experiences. It was great to see all the familiar faces from the past decade. Our team has worked with over 1,000 young parents and their families from across Ayrshire and we are so proud to be celebrating this milestone with them.”

Jennifer Wilson, NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Nurse Director, added: “It was an honour to attend the celebration and see and hear what a real difference the Family Nurse Partnership has made, and continues to make, to people’s lives. Children deserve the very best start and this programme gives local young families the tools and confidence they need to build the best possible relationships with their babies.

“I’d like to say a very big thank you to the staff and families who have helped to make the FNP such a success over the last ten years, and wish them all the best for the future.”

There was a diary room set up on the day where families and staff could share their experiences of the FNP on video. Follow ‘Family Nurse Partnership NHS Ayrshire & Arran’ on Facebook to see their stories.
