As part of Occupational Therapy Week, the Children and Young People’s Occupational Therapy Team in East Ayrshire have been speaking to members of the public in a bid to raise awareness of the value of occupational therapy.

Joanne Reilly, one of the Occupational Therapists from the team said, “Occupations are all the activities that people have to do, or want to do, in their daily life.  It’s important to understand the role occupational therapy can play in supporting people of all ages with their occupations in order to improve their physical and mental wellbeing.

“We were delighted to be able to speak to so many people about the different factors impacting on theirs or family members’ daily activities, such as ill health, disability, mobility, and mental health and life circumstances.

“The team were able to offer practical and emotional advice and to signpost to other support services, such as health professionals, GP and self-management resources online.

“We are grateful that so many people took the time to share their stories with us, and we’d also like to thank the visitors and staff who attended our awareness stand at Crosshouse Area Centre.”
