The teams below provide services to individuals from across Ayrshire on an urgent/unscheduled basis.

Mental Health Advanced Nurse Practitioners

Woodland View, University Hospital Crosshouse, University Hospital Ayr and Ailsa Hospital

The Mental Health Advanced Nurse Practitioners provide two different services:

During normal working hours the team primarily respond to the needs of individuals within our mental health inpatient wards at Woodland View and Ailsa Hospital including Adult Acute, Intensive Psychiatric, Rehab, Elderly and Addictions wards.

Out of hours the team respond to the needs of both Emergency Departments (EDs) and Combined Assessment Units (CAUs) at University Hospitals Ayr and Crosshouse Hospitals and the Ayrshire Maternity Unit.

Adult Psychiatric Liaison

University Hospital Crosshouse and University Hospital Ayr

The Liaison Psychiatry Service offers assessment, clinical advice and signposting for people experiencing mental health or alcohol related physical health difficulties while they are in-patients or being assessed in the Emergency Department or Ayrshire Maternity Unit.

Elderly Liaison

Ailsa Hospital

The Elderly Mental Health Liaison service offers assessment, clinical advice and signposting for people of any age with a diagnosis of dementia. This service is also provided to people over 65 who have other mental health care needs whilst they are being cared for within our general (University Hospitals Ayr and Crosshouse) or community hospitals (Ayrshire Central, Biggart, East Ayrshire and Girvan Hospitals).

Alcohol Liaison

University Hospital Crosshouse and University Hospital Ayr

The Alcohol Liaison Service provides a service to the Emergency Departments and general wards of both hospitals.

The service is normally involved in the early identification of individuals with alcohol related brain damage. The team receives referrals from all areas of the general hospital and has no upper age limit. People are normally seen within 24hrs of their admission to the general hospital.

The Alcohol Liaison Service has no remit in the community.
