Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy Consultation

This consultation ran from Monday 13th February – Friday 19th May 2023 and is now closed.

Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) is a collective term for all anti-cancer drug treatments such as chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran provides Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) for breast, colorectal, lung, urology and haemato-oncology cancers. All other cancer types are currently provided in Glasgow at the West of Scotland Regional Cancer Centre – the Beatson Oncology Centre.

This consultation was about changes and proposals to how we deliver our SACT service for the local population in Ayrshire and Arran.

Healthcare Improvement Scotland Report

Healthcare Improvement Scotland carried out an assessment on whether NHS Ayrshire & Arran met the requirements and expectations around public engagement set out in national guidance, Planning with People, in its proposal to make permanent the temporary changes introduced to Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) services.

In undertaking the assessment, HIS reviewed NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s consultation plans and information, observed at public consultation events, reviewed local and social media coverage and asked people for their views on the consultation process through an online survey and phone interviews.

Based on the findings outlined in their report, HIS hold the view that NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s process has fully met the Planning with People guidance set out by Scottish Government and COSLA.
