On the 75th birthday of King Charles III, more than 400 nurses and midwives from across the United Kingdom came together at a reception held at Buckingham Palace in celebration of the contribution from International nurses to nursing on the same year the NHS marked its 75th anniversary.

The celebrations included Staff Nurse Hatina Tapatapa and Deputy Charge Nurse, Jane Alfonso. Having worked for NHS Ayrshire & Arran for more than 20 years, both Hatina and Jane were nominated by Executive Nurse Director Jennifer Wilson in special recognition of their professionalism, continuous service and personal contribution to nursing in Ayrshire and Arran.

Jennifer Wilson, Executive Nurse Director for NHS Ayrshire & Arran commented, “On behalf of NHS Ayrshire & Arran, I would like to thank Hatina and Jane on their high quality, compassionate nursing care.

“The reception at Buckingham Palace was a great opportunity to celebrate the dedication and commitment shown by nursing staff in their service of others within our communities.  Hatina and Jane’s commitment to providing care is an inspiration to us all.”

Hatina who works at the Combined Assessment Unit at University Hospital Crosshouse said, “Being nominated and selected to attend King Charles’ reception at Buckingham Palace made me realise even more as an International Staff Nurse my commitment, dedication and contribution to nursing is noticed and appreciated.

“I shook King Charles III hand, a moment that shall inspire me to work even harder and discharge my duties as a worthy staff nurse. I shall ever be grateful.”

Jane who works in the Acute Cardiology Care Unit University Hospital Crosshouse added, “I am not one to seek or strive for recognition but I was humbled to be nominated and honoured to attend King Charles III reception held at Buckingham Palace.

“I was proud to represent NHS Ayrshire & Arran as an International Staff Nurse. I have worked in University Hospital Crosshouse for 23 years.  Over that time, my job has truly given me endless opportunities and the best experiences in my nursing career. I will continue to serve to the best of my abilities.”

NHS Ayrshire & Arran continue to welcome internationally educated nursing staff and started a new programme of international recruitment in February 2023.
