NHS Ayrshire & Arran welcomes fourth cohort of international recruits

The fourth cohort to join NHS Ayrshire & Arran as part of the International NMAHP Recruitment Programme.

NHS Ayrshire & Arran is delighted to welcome its fourth cohort of international recruits as part of the Scottish Government’s International Nurse, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (NMAHP) Recruitment Programme.

The new recruits have joined our Nursing, Radiography and Physiotherapy teams and will build on the success of previous cohorts, who joined in February, May and August last year.

Taylor Dante, International Recruitment Lead, says: “It is a pleasure to be welcoming more international NMAHP recruits. This cohort is made up of six nurses, two radiographers and two physiotherapists.

“NHS Ayrshire & Arran will support them in their training and development including support from the Practice Development Team who train the nurses for their Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration exam, known as the OSCE. Last year the team supported fifteen internationally educated nurses to successfully complete the OSCE, allowing them to progress in their careers from a Band 4 to a Band 5.

“Feedback from the previous cohorts has been excellent.”

The new cohort was welcomed to the organisation in a uniquely Scottish way with a Scottish induction and a special performance by a bagpiper at University Hospital Ayr.

International recruitment is taking place within NHS Ayrshire & Arran on a three-monthly cycle, with a support programme in place so that by the end of their cycle new recruits have the tools, access to services and the information they need to put roots down with their families in Ayrshire.

HR Director, Sarah Leslie, adds: “We are so pleased to be able to offer opportunities to international recruits to be part of our great community here in NHS Ayrshire & Arran. As well as attracting international healthcare workers, we also want to show them what a great place Ayrshire and Arran is to live, work, and thrive.

“As part of developing our best workforce, international recruitment helps us reflect the diversity of Scotland with the opportunity to learn from other parts of the world in the delivery of health and care. We value the feedback of our teams who have welcomed earlier recruits and are continuously looking to improve the experience for those involved and the services where we have implemented internal recruitment. We are looking forward to welcoming our latest cohort and developing our workforce for the future with our great staff and new recruits.”
