The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Ayrshire and Arran currently has three teams:
- Specialist Community CAMHS (CAMHS),
- CAMHS Urgent Assessment & Intensive Treatment (CUAIT) and
- Neurodiverse CAMHS (N-CAMHS).
All of our services can support young people from age 5 up to 18.
Interventions and support can vary from short term treatments to more complex treatments for children and young people experiencing more severe problems.
Specialist Community CAMHS (CAMHS)
This team covers the assessment, care and treatment of children and young people experiencing serious mental health problems e.g. low mood, anxiety, suicidal ideation.
Referrals should be made through either the child/young person’s school or education services, social work, or the child/young person’s doctor (GP).
This team has clinics in North, South and East Ayrshire and can be contacted Monday – Friday 9am to 5pm.

CAMHS Urgent Assessment & Intensive Treatment (CUAIT)
This newly set up team respond to the urgent needs of young people who are experiencing a mental health crisis.
This is a 7 day a week service currently operating between 9am and 5pm.
Access to the service is via the Emergency Departments at Crosshouse and Ayr hospitals.
Neurodiverse CAMHS (N-CAMHS)
This team provides multi-disciplinary neurodevelopmental assessments to support children and young people accessing mental health services to gain an understanding of their strengths and challenges they face. This can help them to reach their full potential.
Neurodevelopmental assessments may provide a diagnosis of:
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder (ADHD), Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Intellectual Disability (ID), Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), Developmental Co-ordination Disorder (DCD) and Tourette’s / Tics.
Referrals should be made through the child / young person’s school or doctor (GP).
You will be seen by the Specialist Community CAMHS Team for an initial assessment before being seen by N-CAMHS for a Neuro Assessment.
