Service users who require a hearing aid repair can do so in several ways.
By post
You can send your faulty hearing aid to the Audiology Department for repair by post.
Please ensure that:
- the hearing aid is well packaged
- you include the full name, address and date of birth of the hearing aid user when posting it to the service
Ideally, please include a description of the fault. We will automatically post the hearing aid back to the user at their home address unless you ask us to do something different, such as:
- send it to a relative’s address
- request a phone call so that someone can collect it
The majority of our postal hearing aid repair work is carried out at Ayr so regardless of where you were fitted, please post your hearing aid to the department at Ayr when requesting a repair.
Repair appointment
You can contact the Audiology Service and request an appointment for a hearing aid repair.
In some situations, it is necessary for us to see you in person in order to carry out the repair. Please request an appointment if this is likely to be the case.
Dropping and collecting
You can use the drop box facility in the Audiology department at University Hospital Ayr or Crosshouse. Drop off your hearing aid, and staff will collect it and have it returned to you once it’s repaired – usually within 24 hours.
When placing a hearing aid in the drop box, please include:
- the user’s name, address, and date of birth
- a description of the fault if possible
If you would like us to call you once the repair is complete, let us know and we will arrange for collection. Otherwise, we will usually post the repaired hearing aid back on the day of repair.
We can also leave the packaged hearing aid, labelled with the user’s mailing details, in the drop box for out of hours collection.
Please note: We no longer offer a drop in service where people can attend the department and wait to have a hearing aid repaired.
Service Users who require replacement hearing aid batteries can arrange this in one of several ways:
- Postal – By sending their hearing aid service and battery book (the “yellow” book) to the Audiology Service, by post, with a request that we return it with replacement hearing aid batteries.
- Correspondence/email/phone – By contacting the Department by email, phone or letter requesting replacement hearing aid batteries to be sent to them by post.
You are strongly discouraged from visiting the Department for replacement hearing aid batteries. If you do visit you will be asked to leave your hearing aid service and battery book in the drop box for us to post out replacement batteries to you.
