Sensory Impaired Support Group (SISG)

Sensory Impaired Support Group (SISG) are one of the voluntary services providing support to the hearing and visually impaired population in Ayrshire and Arran.

Hearing Help Hubs

SISG provide monthly Hearing Help Hubs in the following locations from 10am to 12noon:

  • Suite 4, Beresford Court, Ayr, KA7 2DW – first Wednesday of each month
  • East Ayrshire Community Hospital, Ayr Road, Cumnock, KA18 1EF – third Tuesday of each month
  • Kilwinning Library, St Winnings Lane, Kilwinning, KA13 6EP – first Thursday of each month
  • Kilmarnock Library, Dick Institute, Elmbank Avenue, Kilmarnock, KA1 3BU – fourth Wednesday of each month

Battery pick up points

For hearing aid users, visit battery pick up points in the following local libraries during their normal opening hours:

North Ayrshire

SISG also work in partnership with Voluntary Action South Ayrshire (VASA) to help in the distribution of hearing aid batteries to local hearing aid users.

Hearing support and lip reading groups

Groups take place in the following locations each fortnight:

  • Ayr Hospital
  • Largs TocH Hall
  • Kilmarnock

Sensory wellbeing cafes

  • Ayr (Smith’s Restaurant) – third Wednesday of each month, 10.30am to 12noon
  • Alloway (Burns Centre) – third Tuesday of each month, 2pm to 3.30pm
  • Troon (South Beach Hotel) – first Thursday of each month, 10.30am to 12noon

Other resources

  • Sensory Help Packs include a range of tools and information for those with hearing or sight loss. Tools include hearing aid cleaning equipment, earmould puffers, wipes, batteries, magnifiers and bump ons
  • Hints and tips sensory videos and lip reading practice videos – can be accessed on the SISG website
  • Visual loss support group – held monthly in Ayr
  • Visual loss one to one support service
