Adult Support and Protection

The Adult Support and Protection (Scotland) Act 2007 is there to protect ‘adults at risk of harm’. An adult at risk is defined as someone who:

  • can’t safeguard themselves,
  • their property or their rights;
  • is at risk of harm;
  • and is experiencing:
    • a disability
    • a mental disorder
    • illness
    • physical or mental infirmity.

If you, or someone you know, is at risk of harm don’t ignore it. Contact your local council by email or phone and share your concerns – you can do so anonymously. The matter will be dealt with sensitively and confidentially, and support given if needed.

If you thought a child was at risk of harm, you’d do something about it. It should be no different for an adult. If your instinct tells you something isn’t right, don’t keep it to yourself.
