What is Cervical Cancer?
Cervical cancer begins in the cervix, which is the lower part of the womb (uterus). The cervix is covered in “skin-like cells” and when these cells become abnormal and begin to grow in an uncontrolled manner and eventually form a growth (tumour), this results in cervical cancer.
Symptoms of Cervical Cancer may include:
- unusual vaginal bleeding
- pain or discomfort during sex
- vaginal discharge that smells unpleasant
- pain in the area between the hip bones (pelvis)
These symptoms listed above are usually caused by other medical conditions. But if you have any of them it is important to see your doctor.
Treatment Options
Treatment for Cervical Cancer is dependent on:
- where exactly the cancer is
- the stage, type and grade of cancer
- your general levels of health and fitness
