Foxgrove, the new National Secure Adolescent Inpatient Service for Scotland, is an inpatient unit for children aged 12 to 18 years who have complex difficulties and need a high level of care.
The unit is situated on the Ayrshire Central Hospital campus in Irvine, North Ayrshire.
A scale model of Foxgrove is currently on display in the reception area of Woodland View, Ayrshire Central Hospital campus.
When it opens this year, Foxgrove will provide the first medium secure adolescent inpatient service for young people in Scotland. This means a dedicated and appropriately skilled multidisciplinary healthcare team will be on hand to deliver the level of care that these young people deserve, closer to home.
The development is a key strand of the Scottish Government’s Mental Health Strategy 2017-2027, part of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services: national services specification and is legislated by the Mental Health (Safety and Security) (Scotland) Regulations 2005.
The Full Business Case was approved by the Scottish Government in October 2022. Construction work is ongoing on site by Kier, NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s construction partner in this project.
Fremantle Consultants and Lead Artist, Lindsay Perth, were appointed and have produced an Arts and Design Strategy which has underpinned the aesthetic look and feel of the unit.
