Vaccines

Vaccines help prevent serious diseases and keep you and your community healthy. We all benefit when there are high levels of protection against vaccine-preventable diseases.

Find out about immunisations offered in Scotland at www.nhsinform.scot/immunisation

When enough people are immunised against an infection, it’s more difficult for it to be spread to those who are not immunised. This is called herd immunity or population protection. Learn more about the benefits of immunisation at nhsinform.scot/benefitsofimmunisation

The vaccines offered in Scotland have been tested for safety and effectiveness. Their safety continues to be monitored while they are in use. You can find out more about vaccine safety from gov.uk/mhra

Vaccines offered in the Scottish Immunisation Programme are free of charge. When everyone takes up their offer of vaccination, everyone in the community has a better chance of living long, healthy lives.

If you cannot attend your scheduled appointment call 01563 826540 between 9am – 5pm to reschedule.

This winter there have been high levels of flu circulating compared to previous years.

If you’re eligible, it’s not too late to get vaccinated against flu this winter. NHS Scotland strongly recommends you get vaccinated to help protect yourself and others before the vaccination offer ends on 31 March 2025.

You may also be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. If so, you can get the COVID-19 vaccine until 31 January 2025.

Drop-in opportunities in Ayrshire

People eligible for both flu and coronavirus vaccinations include all over 65 year olds, pregnant women and frontline health and social care workers, including care home and care at home staff.

People eligible for only flu vaccines include those age 18 to 64 years with certain health conditions, those with weakened immune systems, unpaid carers and non-patient facing Health and Social Care staff.

In winter 2022 and winter 2023, unpaid carers and household contacts of immunosuppressed people were eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine under JCVI advice. It is important to note that from winter 2024, as per JCVI advice, they are no longer eligible for COVID-19 vaccination although, as indicated above, they remain eligible for flu vaccination.
