The children’s ward at University Hospital Crosshouse and Crosshouse Children’s Fund has received the annual toy donation from Michael Kirkum this week.
Michael has been organising the annual toy donation every Christmas for over 15 years by approaching local businesses and asking them to make a contribution. Michael then delivers the festive gifts, including toys and sweetie tubs, so that hospital staff can share the gifts with those children who unfortunately have to be in hospital over the festive season.
Each year, he brings smiles to the faces of countless children, brightening their hospital stays during the festive season. However, this year marks a bittersweet moment – his last donation. After years of generosity, Michael has decided to step back and hand over the sleigh reigns to his son, also called Michael.
NHS Ayrshire & Arran Hospital Play Specialist Michelle Dodds said:
“Michael, and the local businesses who offer their support, help bring joy to the children staying with us over the festive period. Having to stay in hospital is never easy, but it can be especially hard for children at this time of year.
“On behalf of the hospital staff, who have witnessed Michael’s generosity, compassion, and dedication to spreading joy to our young patients over the years, we can’t thank you enough.”
Rebekah McGinn, Crosshouse Children’s Fund Fundraising Manager, added: “On behalf of everyone at Crosshouse Children’s Fund, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Michael Kirkham for his generous toy donations once again this year. Your support will make a world of difference to the children in hospital this Christmas, bringing them joy and comfort when they need it most.”
