Supporting people to live well with a neurological condition in Ayrshire and Arran

We are looking to start a network to encourage conversations around how we can get even better at supporting people with a neurological condition, to live well at home with support from social care and health services.

On the 23rd of July, we held an event to bring people living with a neurological condition, together with care at home staff and health and social care colleagues, for some conversation and cake.

This was a great opportunity to share knowledge, views and experiences and make sure that everyone’s voice was heard, so that a rich picture was built up that respected the variety of views in the room.

  • We firstly talked about what matters to people, what makes their hearts sing. We wanted to know what the small moments that add to people’s lives are. This helped keep us focused on people living their best lives, on their own terms.
  • We then looked at what is working well at the moment to support people living with neurological conditions to live well at home. This included positive aspects of relationships and when the systems work well.
  • Finally, we spent time being curious about what could be improved. Ideas included having a bank of carers available for unplanned activities and ways to meet changing needs post-diagnosis, to joining up care and health access to someone’s records.

Thank you to all those who came along to the event to share their experiences.

What happens next?

We will share further opportunities to continue this conversation here, once we work through the ideas from our first event. We will also act where we can on people’s ideas for quick improvements.

Please watch the following video of the findings from our first event. Thanks to Helen Wilson of Envision for graphic facilitation.

If you know of people who would like to get involved, particularly people living with a neurological condition, please get in touch.

We want to offer opportunities for people to share their experiences and challenges and to come up with solutions. We can arrange a video or telephone call or call out to meet someone in person.
